Installation Instructions - KiTAP
Instructions for installing the KiTAP
First time installation
For the setup the included USB dongle is not necessary, it is needed only to start the program itself.
Since the individual subtests of the KiTAP will be run with so called real-time priority, a local group named "TAP" is created during installation to allow user accounts with limited rights to use real time priority.
Therefore please confirm the dialog for configuring the TAP group appearing at the end of the installation always with "OK" (even if there are no accounts available for selection).
Before first use all user accounts supposed to run the KiTAP should be added to the TAP group.
In case network user profiles are used, user accounts will have to be added manually. Please refer to the document on our website: http://www.psytest.net/uploads/Downloads/TAP Group.pdf.
New-/Update-Installation
We recommend to uninstall any previous version prior to the installation of a new one (via the usual way "Control panel>Software").
Test results will remain (by default in "My Documents"[Windows2000/XP] or "Documents"[Windows Vista / 7] in a folder called "kitap"), but a prior backup is always advisable.
An already set up TAP group is also preserved.
If you are installing several KiTAP versions please make sure that the serial number on the CD matches the one on the USB dongle.
Configuration of the screen
To avoid a distorted presentation that could affect the performance, it is necessary to set the screen resolution of the KiTAP (Menu: Options -> Screen specification) to the so called "native resolution" of the monitor. Information about the native resolution can either be found on the monitor itself or in its manual respectively on the homepage of the monitor manufacturer. Normally it is the highest value the KiTAP suggests in the screen-specification dialog.
KiTAP under Windows Vista/ Windows 7
With Vista/7 every user account (so also administrative accounts) is running with limited access rights.
"Normal" users have the right to run programs with realtime priority, if they were added to the TAP group, whereas realtime priority is denied at first for administrators within Windows Vista/7
Therefore explicitly "Run as administrator" has to be configured for the KiTAP.
Procedure:
- Right click the KiTAP icon
- Choose "Properties" in the opening menu
- Choose the tab "Shortcut" and further on "Advanced"
- Within the window "Advanced Properties" check the box "Run as administrator" and confirm the dialog with "OK"
